Sunday Highlight: November 15, 2026
Since October 2014, Darla Richardson has been ministering to refugees in Memphis, Tennessee. She serves individuals and families from Afghanistan, Syria, Morocco, Sudan, Kurdistan, and Iraq.
When the Afghan and Ukrainian crises began, Darla and the Refugee Memphis team stepped in to help resettle families. Today, she directs the refugee ministry at the Memphis Send Relief Center, where the focus is on meeting practical needs and building Gospel-centered relationships.
“We offer ESL classes, a computer lab, ladies’ chai events, Afghan church, Bible studies, children’s ministry, and other programs based on the felt needs of our refugee friends,” Darla said. “I’m excited to see how God will use the ministry center as a bridge into homes where deeper Gospel conversations can take place.”
Darla treasures the friendships formed through service. “I don’t want them to feel like they’re just a project or someone I help because it’s my job,” she said. “These are friends I’m blessed to know and love.”
Our prayers and gifts through the Cooperative Program help refugees in Tennessee experience the compassion of Christ. Pray this week that God will give Darla wisdom and guidance as she leads the Refugee Ministry Center.
