Sunday Highlight: December 20, 2026
Pray for Leanne Stack as she ministers to Ukrainian refugees through trauma-focused discipleship.
Amid war and displacement, a group of Ukrainian women are finding comfort in Scripture through trauma-focused discipleship groups through the International Mission Board.
The women relate deeply to biblical characters like Daniel, who found peace in exile. “The Bible doesn’t use the word trauma, but it speaks so much to trauma,” Leanne said. “Themes of loss, grief, distress, fear, and suffering are all over the Bible.”
Leanne uses oral storytelling to help the women process their emotions. They hear stories like Jesus calming the storm, Job’s conversations with his friends, and Elijah fleeing for his life. The women learn the stories, act them out, and discuss them together. This approach has helped them connect their experiences to the hope found in Christ.
Leanne emphasizes the importance of allowing space for lament, rather than rushing to find a positive takeaway. Through this process, the women are discovering Jesus’ heart for them even in seasons of trauma and loss.
Pray for Leanne as she continues walking alongside these women, and for each refugee to find healing, hope, and comfort in the Gospel.
