Hawaii Pacific Baptists / IMB Enter into Historic Strategic Agreement
Hawaii Pacific Baptists and the International Mission Board have a long history of cooperation. It was in 1940 when all of the missionaries in China and Japan were forced out of these countries that the Hawaiian Mission of the Foreign Mission Board was formally organized and First Baptist of Wahiawa was the first church to affiliate. In light of the rich history and similarities in ministry settings and approach, the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention (HPBC) and the International Mission Board (IMB) signed a historic strategic agreement in September 2020.
The stated purpose of this partnership agreement is that “The Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention and the International Mission Board seek to partner together to mobilize Hawaii Pacific Baptists to pray, give, and go with IMB teams to the nations, and to strengthen Hawaii Pacific Baptists as they embrace their responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission, both locally and globally.”The partnership will be for a period of 3 years, starting January 1, 2021, through December 31, 2023.
Some of the action areas that Hawaii Pacific Baptists will engage in as part of this strategic agreement include mobilizing intercessory prayer for the lost, unengaged, and unreached peoples; implementing and promoting the use of IMB discipleship resources such as Deepen Discipleship; mobilizing Hawaii Pacific Baptist students and young adults to participate in Journeymen, ISC 2+2 and other short and midterm field services; mobilizing and equipping Hawaii Pacific Baptists to effectively send all segments of their congregations to the nations in short term, mid-term, and long- term mission opportunities; and supporting IMB field teams by connecting Hawaii Pacific Baptists with specific projects and needs.
Some of the action areas that the International Mission Board will engage in as part of this strategic agreement include providing prayer resources and training on intercessory prayer; assisting with the implementation of Deepen Discipleship and other training as needed and requested by Hawaii Pacific Baptists; Training Hawaii Pacific Baptists to help students and young adults navigate the selection process for short and midterm field service; assisting the HPBC team in mobilizing and equipping Hawaii Pacific Baptists; connecting Hawaii Pacific Baptists with IMB field teams to establish long term field partnerships.
