Sunday Highlight: June 15, 2025
Today in our prayer time, let’s focus on what life is like for two of our missionaries in Central Asia.
We might call it “Life Without Walmart.”
Wait — did I just hear someone say, “Those poor dears!”
We’re going to call them Josh and Madison, not their real names. It’s a Muslim area.
They live in a house with a courtyard neighbors can see, so it’s important their tiled courtyard is kept clean at all times.
An Islamic mosque on every corner reminds them most people here do not know Jesus.
Shopping requires going to small neighborhood shops — one for vegetables, another for meat, another for spices and so on. There are no supermarkets. And no Walmarts.
Need propane or vegetables or fabric? You can buy it from trucks that pass. For clothes Madison buys fabric and takes it to a tailor, relatively inexpensive.
Picnicking away from the houses is a great recreational escape that also helps Josh and Madison meet neighbors.
Through the Cooperative Program, our church is supporting Josh and Madison as they share Christ in that very different land.
Let’s thank God they’re willing to live so differently to make Jesus known!
