Military families face unique challenges that civilian communities often struggle to understand. Frequent relocations, deployment separations, and the stress of military life create specific spiritual and emotional needs that require specialized ministry approaches. Craig and Maggie Coppenbarger understand these challenges intimately and feel called to address them through church planting.
With two decades of combined military and ministry experience, the Coppenbargers bring exceptional qualifications to their calling. They have successfully planted two churches and trained numerous others for ministry. Their background uniquely positions them to understand and address the challenges that military life brings to families seeking spiritual community and growth.
Valor Church, launching this August in the Pearl Harbor/Hickam area of Oahu, represents what it means to contend together for a specific population. Rather than expecting military families to adapt to traditional church models, this new congregation is being designed from the ground up to meet their particular needs and circumstances.
Military communities offer incredible ministry opportunities. Service members and their families often experience heightened awareness of life’s fragility and meaning. Deployments create natural seasons for spiritual reflection and growth. The diversity within military communities provides chances to reach people from across America and around the world.
Your gifts through the Sue Nishikawa Offering provide crucial support for church planting efforts like Valor Church. These funds help with startup costs, facility needs, outreach programs, and the countless expenses involved in launching a new congregation. More importantly, they demonstrate that Hawaii Pacific Baptists are contending together to ensure that every community—including our military communities—has access to vibrant Gospel-centered churches.
As you pray today, remember that military families sacrifice greatly for our freedom. Supporting church plants that specifically serve these families is one way we can express gratitude while ensuring they have spiritual homes that understand their unique journey.
Prayer Focus:
- Pray for Craig and Maggie Coppenbarger as they prepare to launch Valor Church
- Pray for military families to find spiritual community and growth
- Pray for the church plant to reach diverse military personnel and families
