Sunday Highlight: January 14, 2024
When we think of missionaries we support through our Cooperative Program, we usually think of career missionaries. They move overseas and serve most of their lives.
Thousands of missionaries still do! But needs are so great around the world that our International Mission Board is trying all sorts of programs. Some people do multiple short-term assignments. They’re called boomerangs.
Today, let’s pray for two of our boomerang missionaries, whom we’ll call Marty and Chandler. In 2016, they served for a short time in the Middle East, working with refugees. But God called them back overseas.
They took time to get more training. Marty studied church planting at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Carolina. Then he studied more at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Missouri. (By the way — our church supports those two seminaries and four others through our Cooperative Program giving.)
Chandler got a degree in nursing and worked for a time as a nurse.
Then they went back to Africa, to a place we cannot name. Marty is training local pastors to reach lost people who have no missionary assigned. Chandler trains pastors’ wives in nursing.
Let’s pray for our boomerang missionaries Marty and Chandler and their faithfulness!
