Sunday Highlight: July 7, 2024
New York City is the Big Apple, right? People from all over the world are there, including thousands of migrants who have arrived in recent times.
Today, let’s pray for Emmanuel and Ioana Grozea who are leading a Romanian Baptist church to reach not just people from Romania, but all the nations for Christ.
Emmanuel grew up in Romana during the Communist days. To have Bibles to read, his family had to smuggle them into the country. Despite the atheism and harsh times there, Emmanuel served as pastor for 10 years. Then he was called to New York City to bring a dying Romanian Baptist church back to life. It has taken time.
But now the church is called Maranatha Baptist Church. It’s reaching people from Nepal, Poland, Egypt, Italy, Turkey, Armenia, and Spanish-speaking countries. All the nations worship together on Sunday morning, but they study the Bible by language group.
Now that the church has begun to grow, Emmanuel hopes to plant three more new churches by 2030. It’s a great plan in this city, which needs hundreds of new evangelical churches.
Emmanuel and Ioana are two of the many missionaries in New York City our church supports through our Cooperative Program giving. Let’s pray the Lord will keep them safe so they can bring many to Christ.
