I gave you an update at the end of January that your Executive board approved a job description and a process for finding an interim Executive Director-Treasurer. Your officers and the board worked on that task through February and unfortunately (for different reasons), we have been unable to fill the interim position.

In the meantime, the bylaws of HPBC state that when the position of Executive Director is vacant, “During the interim period, the president shall serve as Executive Director-Treasurer until otherwise designated by the Executive Board” (II.7.b.2). Since Chris Martin’s last day was February 17th, and our interim search had not yet approved anyone, I have been serving in a limited function in this position over the last 2 weeks.

Today I want to announce that the officers and the executive board have decided to suspend or shelve the search for an interim Executive Director and simply have me serve in this capacity in the interim. This will allow us to move forward and turn our attention to the work we have in finding our long-term Executive Director-Treasurer, and also other items on the board’s agenda.

My hope is that in the limited duration as your interim Executive Director (and the limited hours I have available for this task), I may be able to help our staff and our convention continue in the work God has for us. As interim, it is not my job to start broad new programs, but to help sustain our unity and focus on our mission.

I believe there is still so much God has for us to accomplish together this year, and it will take each of us. So I ask for your help as we work together through the transitions of this year, and I thank all of you who have invested in the great work of this convention, that has impacted my church and my life. May God continue to use our convention in great ways in this year as we glorify Christ.

In closing, let me encourage you to come to the Town Hall meetings that the search committee for the long-term Executive Director-Treasurer are hosting in the coming weeks. These will be to get your input on what our churches are looking for in our next leader. And feel free to catch me at these gatherings to talk about other things going on in our convention.
