Sunday Highlight: December 21, 2025
As we pray today, let’s remember that our overseas missionaries cope with the same type of problems we struggle with in America.
Rebekah Lockhart is our Southern Baptist missionary serving in Uganda, in central Africa.
She has big responsibilities at Uganda Baptist Seminary. She teaches history and serves as registrar, among other duties. Rebekah is in her early 40s and thought she was healthy.
Until she wasn’t.
Her sudden exhaustion was not normal. Our International Mission Board has medical doctors who support our missionaries. First, they sent her to Kenya for tests.
Rebekah had leukemia.
The IMB brought her back to the U.S. for intense, lengthy treatments — 18 months of them. Some of us here probably know what that’s like.
The good news was that, as soon as she was pronounced cured, she packed for the return trip to Uganda. Her work at the seminary is important because the school trains church leaders across East Africa.
Let’s pray now for Rebekah — for her continued and cancer-free health.
And let’s thank God we have a mission board that looks after our missionaries with Christian compassion and love.
Our church supports both Rebekah and our board — through the Cooperative Program.
