Sunday Highlight: September 12
Today we want to pray for a home missionary couple called to inner city Cincinnati, Ohio, to plant a church. They are Kirk and Karen Kirkland. Kirk says they were living in Dayton, Ohio, maybe an hour’s drive north of Cincinnati — and they were comfortable there. When he felt called to plant a new church, he thought it would be about anywhere but Cincinnati. But the new church has grown. Kirk says planting a new church as a Southern Baptist was much easier than having an unaffiliated church.
He says as a pastor, you don’t have to be alone, because there are other Southern Baptists who will provide support and encouragement. About two million people live in and around Cincinnati and only about 13 percent have ties to an evangelical church. The challenge is massive. Let’s pray that the new church Kirk has launched will grow non-stop and help thousands find faith in Christ.
Our church is supporting home missionaries like the Kirklands in other parts of Cincinnati and in most of the major midwest cities like it — all through our Cooperative Program giving. Let’s pray for Kirk and Karen now.
Thank you for learning more about the ways your church’s gifts through the Cooperative Program are the financial fuel for reaching every person for Jesus Christ in every town, every city, every state, and every nation. Connect the offering plate to the mission field with “52 Sundays” resources.
