Sunday Highlight: May 7, 2023
Today let’s pray for two of our missionaries serving in Baltimore, Maryland. They are Gregory and Chanelle Barnes, and they have planted Love Light City Church. Baltimore is a city of nearly 3 million people, and it is a very challenging mission field because there are so many lost people. Our North American Mission Board has sent more than a dozen church planters to Baltimore, including Gregory and Chanelle. Remember that our church supports both them and the board through the Cooperative Program.
The new church Gregory and Chanelle have planted is in West Baltimore. That has been a working class, racially diverse part of the city. Gregory and Chanelle say only the love of Christ can defeat evils like racism and other ills that divide people. Their church has focused on local schools for outreach — they have sponsored events at five local schools. They also back a program for boys at an elementary school. Gregory and Chanelle have also held block parties and other events to meet people. They feel Jesus forgave their sins, and it was such a powerful experience for them they want others to share it as well.
Our missionaries also have been working hard to develop leaders within the congregation to extend the church’s outreach and ministry. Let’s join Gregory and Chanelle in praying for that. Let’s ask God to grow their new church with strong leaders to completely transform West Baltimore and its people.
