Featured Speakers

Johnny Hom
President of HPBC
Pastor Johnny has been walking with the Lord since he came to put his faith in Jesus in 2000 when he was a senior in high school. Though he grew up going to Nu’uanu Baptist, he never understood his need for Christ until God showed him the depth of his sin and need for salvation. It has been amazing for him to see God’s wondrous grace as he has led him through many seasons of trials and growth. Johnny joined the NBC Pastoral team in 2019, after serving as Assistant Pastor at Central Baptist Church for five years. His ministry focus is helping to oversee and develop all aspects of Nu’uanu Baptist Church life in order that we, together, are growing and “making disciples” as Jesus Christ has commissioned us (Matthew 28:19). He has been married to his wife Melanie, his best friend and partner in ministry, since 2008, and they have three rambunctious kids: Silas, Keziah, and Kerena. He holds a M.A. in Christian Education from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry in Applied Theology.

Ben Mandrell
President and Chief Executive Officer of Lifeway
Ben Mandrell was elected the 10th president of Lifeway Christian Resources on June 28, 2019. As president and CEO, Mandrell provides vision and strategic leadership to the nonprofit organization headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Prior to joining Lifeway, he pastored churches in Colorado and Tennessee. A native of Tampico, Illinois, Mandrell graduated from Anderson (Indiana) University in 1998. He also holds a Master of Divinity degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Union University in Jackson, Tennessee. Although Ben is in executive leadership for Lifeway, he still maintains his pastor’s heart; he preaches at churches all over the United States and serves as a speaker at various conferences and leadership/training events. He co-hosts, along with his wife, Lynley, The Glass House podcast— conversations that point the way forward to healthy emotions and relationships for ministry leaders and their families. Ben and Lynley have been married since 2001. They have four children: Ava, Max, Miles and Jack.

Chris Martin
Executive Director / Treasurer of HPBC

Chris has been married to his wonderful wife, Wendy since 1991. Being extremely proud of his children, he has two; Taylor (and husband, Paul) and Zachary (and wife, Paige), with two beautiful granddaughters, Meleana and Hazel, and two grandsons, Elone and Christopher. Chris enjoys being with his wife and family, as well as resourcing, encouraging, and working with churches – his hobbies are golf, fishing, surfing, and most outdoor sports – and loves football season!
