Big Island Lava Disaster Relief Update Director of Disaster Relief, Darrell McCain
Over 600 homes now have been destroyed and are covered by lava in Pahoa on Hawaii Island (The Big Island). The lava has spread over 6000 acres of landscape. This is truly an amazing demonstration of the power of God’s creation.
Unfortunately, families have lost their homes and have been forced to live in shelters or with host families temporarily.
The good thing is that there has been no loss of life and our churches have surfaced to the top with amazing ministry to their community.
Hawaii Pacific Disaster Relief (HPDR) continues to be on standby to help our partners with feeding if needed.
Puna Baptist Church continues to help with laundry by purchasing vouchers for displaced families with the help of another local organization.
Paradise Park Baptist church is the base for our Feeding trailer and now the shower trailer. Both are on standby to operate if needed.
Your offerings will help families as needed with unmet needs. It will help our HPDR to activate when called on.
Darrell McCain will conduct Disaster Relief training this summer on the Islands, look for the training on your Island and be ready to help when called on.
We have finished our recovery on Kauai by cleaning out 28 homes; this includes mudding out, debris removal and mold remediation. We are now in the process of using you’re giving to help affected families with unmet needs to replace some of their destroyed personal possessions. Pastor Larry Hale of Eleele Baptist church is taking this lead with the help of his church members.
