Hawaii Pacific Disaster Relief is on standby for the current Big Island Lava eruption disaster. Darrell McCain, Director of Disaster Relief Ministries, has gone to the Puna District of Big Island to assess the situation and to assist our churches and their ministry to the community.
Darrell has shipped the Disaster Relief mobile kitchen from Oahu to Paradise Park Baptist Church where it will be based for feeding operations if needed.
We are working closely with our partners to be ready if they call on us to activate.
Disaster Relief trained volunteers conducted a mock feeding operation Saturday, May 26 to operational check equipment and to refresh ourselves on feeding operations. The training was held at Paradise Park Baptist Church with Pastor Lee Ford and Norm Oka leading the operation.
The mobile shower trailer is based at Puna Baptist Church and we suspended operations there for lack of need at this time. Puna Baptist Church and a local organization have provided laundry vouchers through a local vendor to provide displaced families a way to wash clothes.
Pastor Steven Hedlund from Kohala Baptist Church is providing a prayer and comfort tent on Wednesdays at the Shelter. This is a great way to help people as they are stressed and do not know when this crisis will end.
Please continue to pray for the displaced families, volunteers, and first responders for comfort and strength as they deal with this disaster. Offerings to help the churches and displaced families can be given to HPBC and marked in the memo lava disaster.
