Sunday Highlight: July 9, 2023
Today in our prayer time, let’s pray for one of our missionaries we’ll call Benjamin. That’s because he is serving with his family in Central Asia, a place where the Christian faith is outlawed. Our church supports him through the Cooperative Program. Benjamin has an interesting assignment. He is sharing the Gospel with the academics and religious leaders who greatly influence the national government and culture.
Benjamin has found it best to involve his wife and child in the ministry. Sometimes that has gotten interesting results like the time they attended a major lecture at one of the top universities. When their three-year-old son saw a family friend, he loudly greeted her with a local word meaning “auntie,” and waved a “come on over” motion to her. The stunned lecturer stopped and all eyes turned to the American family.
It was awkward, but OK — the society values children and family. Benjamin says his son’s openness has increased the family’s Christian witness. Let’s pray for Benjamin and his family, as they share the Gospel with the people who can potentially could turn an entire nation towards Jesus.
