Sunday Highlight: November 5, 2023
Let’s go to Cincinnati, Ohio, to pray today. The city has 2 million people, but fewer than 14% are evangelical Christians. Cincinnati is considered a major missions challenge. Our North American Mission Board calls it a Send City for that reason. The board has helped plant almost 3 dozen new churches in the city, but many more are needed.
Today, let’s pray specifically for Amer and Vicky Safadi. They are from Jordan, so Arabic is their first language. Amer felt led to plant a new church, then decided on Cincinnati was the place God wanted him. He called the Southern Baptist missions leader in Cincinnati and soon Amer, Vicky and their two daughters moved there.
First, they visited stores where Arabs work and shop. They met Arabs studying English at a Southern Baptist church. They then launched a new Arabic language church with 22 members that soon more than doubled. They have reached Arabs from nine countries. Amer and Vicky often invite Arabs to their home for tea, a familiar custom in the Middle East. All of it provides a way to tell people about Jesus.
They are able to reach people who would never have heard the Gospel back in their home lands. Our church is helping support those church plants all over Cincinnati and also the new church planted by Amer and Vicky. That is all possible through our Cooperative Program giving. Let’s pray for Amer and Vicky.
