Sunday Highlight: August 23, 2026
Pray for Carlton and Cornelia Walker, International Mission Board missionaries who have faithfully served in Japan for over 40 years.
Cornelia’s journey began in elementary school when her Girls’ Auxiliary group assigned her to learn about Japan. She chose it because the flag was easy to draw, but God used that simple choice to spark a lifelong calling.
After meeting Carlton, the couple felt led to serve overseas. When they heard of a need for missionaries in Japan, they said, “What about us? We can go.” That willingness launched decades of ministry in a country often resistant to the Gospel.
The Walkers arrived in Japan in 1982. After language study in Tokyo, they moved to Hokkaido, where they saw people come to faith, planted a church, and trained young pastors. Later, they returned to Tokyo, and eventually back to Hokkaido to mentor new missionaries.
Cornelia is excited to see new families and singles answering God’s call to Japan. The Walkers remain confident that God is still at work and give Him all the glory.
As Carlton and Cornelia continue encouraging others and celebrating God’s faithfulness in Japan, let’s pray for them.
