Updates on the Life and Times in the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention

1. Events hosted by the Waianae Coast Christian Women Job Corps.

a. Level 1 training sessions for potential leaders of Job Corps sites is scheduled at the Puu Kahea Conference Center on January 30-February 2. The schedule is: Monday - Wednesday, January 30 - February 1, 2012, 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Thursday, February 2, 8:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. If interested please contact Deanna Aoki. There is still room for a few more people. There is a registration fee of $40.00 for meals, refreshment breaks and teaching materials. Housing is not included in this price. Eva Dela Rosa will be leading the training.

 

b. Mentor training for mentors of women participating in the job corps ministry is scheduled at the Pagoda Hotel, February 4, from 12:00 noon to 4:30 pm. Lunch will be served at 12:00. c. All are invited, with or without training, to an open house at the new WCCWJC location, Nanakuli Community Center, Nanakuli Avenue, Nanakuli, on February 11, 2:00-5:00pm. 2. Wayland Baptist University--Open House, February 4, 3;00-5:00: News via Dr. David Howle, “Save the date of Saturday, February 4, because we are having an open house at the new location, 95-1091 Aianamakua, Mililani Mauka. Festivities start at 3:00 PM with music and hula. Speakers include Honolulu Police Chief Dr. Louis Kealoha, Dr. Veryl Henderson (Executive Director of the Hawaii Pacific Baptist Convention), and State Senators Mike Gabbard and Michelle Kidani. 3. WMU annual meeting Spring! Retreat and WMU Annual Meeting—Feb 3-4: News via Alicia Kaneshiro, “The Spring! 4. Children’s Creative Arts Camp, Oahu—June 25-30: News via Faith McFatridge,The Children's Creative Arts Camp will be held June 25-30 at Olivet Baptist Church in Honolulu. The musical, "Splash Kingdom" has been chosen for the camp. We are looking for children, ages 10-13, to play the speaking parts of the skits in the musical. Needed are: 2 boys, 2 girls (ages 10-13 or youth), 3 children (ages 8-10), 1 man/youth, plus extras and some solos. These actors will be chosen so that the parts can be memorized before the camp. 5. Childcare volunteers needed on Tuesdays: News via Carlye Lawrence, “From 9-10:30am on Tuesday mornings the International Baptist Centre fills up with internationals coming to learn English. Our classes and childcare are free and enable us to meet internationals' need to learn English, and to share a Christian witness. We are in need of more childcare volunteers to help watch the children while their parents attend class (ages birth to 3 years old).
